Local or Online Piano Lessons

Hi! I love hearing from prospective students near and far inquiring about private lessons and would be happy to answer any questions you have. I teach students of all levels/ages both in the greater Los Angeles area and by Skype worldwide. I am less focused on children’s first lessons and more focused on working with teens/adults and advanced musicians wanting to greatly expand their horizons. I teach a fundamental understanding of music as a language, making music more accessible by ear and giving a complete understanding of how chords and songs work.

As you may have noticed, I teach without notation (sheet music). A complete understanding of music without notation involved is not just possible, but preferable. That way, if you go on to notation, you will understand what is being notated. And if you’re like the millions of people who do not get or want to use notation, you still can function at the highest levels of performance and interpretation. I am not saying notation is not useful or functional; just that understanding and context are usually not included in traditional lessons, leaving many players able to read but without any voice of their own. Imagine if every time you wanted to speak, you had to pull a script out of your pocket! Music is a language and speaking it is something everyone can do, including you.

I am based in Southern California, and will travel to your home within a 25 mile radius of the Conejo Valley, including:

Calabasas, Malibu, Westlake Village, Winnetka, Topanga, Tarzana, Encino, Reseda, Canoga Park, Pt. Dume, Serra Retreat, Castellammare, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Venice, Westwood, Bel Air, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Valley Village, Van Nuys, North Hollywood, Laurel Canyon, Beverly Glen, Coldwater Canyon

Let’s get started!

Here are some of the types of students I excel at teaching:

  1. Classical students looking to expand into non-classical music.
  2. Songwriters who feel like they are limited in their abilities.
  3. Singers looking to accompany themselves and become writers.
  4. Piano players who want better syncopation skills to liven up their playing.
  5. Guitarists, bassists and drummers looking for a more complete understanding of songs and how they are constructed.
  6. Curious people!

Curiosity (along with adaptability and flexibility) is the hallmark of all great musicians. If you are a naturally curious person, you will excel at music. Those who are curious and compelled make the greatest strides in becoming the best musicians we can be. Everyone should have the ability to be musical, regardless of the level they aspire to. Not everyone wants to be a professional and that is quite alright. I would like to help you become the greatest musician you can be no matter what your aspiration. Send me a message and let’s get started!

Since every student is unique, I take students on a case by case basis. I will work with anyone who is dedicated and truly interested in being more musical. Just know that playing an instrument requires hard work to get really good at it. The Key of One is ready to unlock and unleash the music within you!
